La migración por Centroamérica no cesa: Panamá pide ayuda a Estados Unidos para frenar el flujo migratorio que utiliza este país como puente hacia otras naciones con destino final, Estados Unidos.

El presidente de Panamá, Laurentino Cortizo, dio el pedido a Estados Unidos, “luego de que varios miles de ciudadanos venezolanos quedaran varados en el país, después de que Estados Unidos anunciara su nueva estrategia migratoria de no permitir el ingreso a ese país de ciudadanos de Venezuela que entren de forma ilegal”, refirió La Estrella de Panamá .

Dijo el presidente que “Panamá es un país con pocos recursos y estamos apoyando con el regreso de venezolanos a su país. Solo en este año han pasado por Darién 206.000 migrantes, 170.000 de ellos venezolanos. Necesitamos apoyo de Estados Unidos”.

Según cifras del Servicio Nacional de Migración (SNM), en total, en 2022 habían ingresado al país más de doscientos mil migrantes irregulares; de esta cantidad, unpos ciento cincuenta mil eran venezolanos.

Por su parte, “la directora del SNM, Samira Gozaine, dijo que, “lamentablemente, no estábamos preparados para una crisis de esta magnitud. Esta es una asistencia humanitaria que Panamá está comprometida con dar”.

En abril pasado, Panamá en conjunto con Costa Rica y República Dominica “ se unieron para “frenar la migración” hacia Estados Unidos, ya que lo consideran “de urgente e importante”, y que por ello, “estamos ofreciendo trabajar con fondos de contrapartida para tener colaboración adicional de países como Estados Unidos y además entendiendo que un fondo de este tipo debe abordar varias dimensiones: la laboral, temas de democracia y el cambio climático”.
